We have learned that when traveling with a kid, a whole lotta rules have got to get thrown out of the window. I heard some advice that the more you travel with your kid, the easier it gets. There is a lot of truth to that. However, once I stopped breastfeeding (G was 1), take off and landing on flights became a bit more difficult and once Baby G entered toddlerhood (12 - 36 months), our travel game had to change.
When I was pregnant, Andres and I discussed how we wanted to create a gender-neutral haven that Baby G could grow into. We had so many ideas, but we settled on the easiest and most convenient. . . an Around the World theme.
“HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT?” I asked my mom. She said, “When I came here (read: immigrated to the US from India) that was my favorite song. Roberta Flack sang it”. I’m not sure when I started singing it to Baby G, but it has stuck and it has become our nightly ritual.
When I was expecting, we were SO fortunate to receive pretty much everything we needed from friends and family. Having said that, if I knew then what I know now, my registry would have looked different.
